Mexican exports to the United States grew 13% year over year in the first half of 2026, with growth spread across electronics, computer equipment, advanced manufacturing, and automotive. For automotive supply chains, Mexico’s role is especially significant: it supplied a record 44.7% of U.S. auto parts imports during that period, according to Mexico’s National Auto Parts Industry Association (INA).
Severe weather puts shippers in a difficult position: Act too early and you may incur unnecessary costs. Wait too long and your options may become more expensive, limited or disappear altogether.
Customs enforcement is entering a new phase—one that will require importers to provide stronger records, greater supply chain visibility, and more complete data to support their compliance obligations. After several years of new tariffs, trade remedies, antidumping and countervailing duties, and measures under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, shippers are now facing a broader push toward importer accountability.

“As we’ve brought our AI playbook to global forwarding, the benefits keep compounding,” said Mike Short, president of global forwarding.... “The faster we get you a quote and handle your booking, the faster you get the ideal carrier and the ideal sailing or flight. For a vessel on the water 15 to 35 days, you don’t want to wait weeks for the next one. For an air shipment, life-saving medicines, perishable produce and critical automotive parts absolutely must arrive on time. Our Lean AI makes your supply chain a smarter, faster, better one.”
A separate October freight market report from C.H. Robinson supports concerns about Mexico’s shrinking pool of qualified cross-border drivers. The company’s Edge Report said U.S. authorities have withdrawn visas from approximately 25,000 Mexican freight drivers, citing Mexican trucking association CANACAR. C.H. Robinson said continued B-1 visa withdrawals and temporary border disruptions reduced usable truck capacity during September, even as load-to-truck ratios and freight volumes remained relatively stable at major Texas crossings.
“If you think about the ability to go from a global shipment starting somewhere around the world, getting onto a steamship, all the way to delivering that product into your living room, [C.H. Robinson] is going to be the only company able to offer that type of solution in the 3PL space, and then offer that level of connectivity to our customers, and do it with the very best operating model and data set in the industry,” said Michael Castagnetto, president of North American Surface Transportation at C.H. Robinson.
